ACID AND BASE USES
Acids and bases are prevalent not only for the use of chemistry but also in your daily life. Here are some examples of the uses of acids and bases:
Acids:
Ascorbic acid - Vitamin C
Sulphuric acid - Car batteries, detergent, fertilizers
Citric acid - Food preservatives
Carbonic acid - Carbonated drinks (i.e. soda)
Ethanoic acid - Used to make vinegar
Hydrochloric acid - Housecleaning, electroplating, swimming pool maintenance
Nitric acid - Fertilizers, explosives, purification and extraction of gold
Bases:
Sodium hydrochlorite - Bleach
Sodium hydroxide - Manufacturing of soaps, cleaners, and detergents
Amonium hydroxide - Glass cleaners
Ammonia - Fertilizers, nitric acid, synthetic latex
Aluminium hydroxide - Aluminium compounds, gastric medicines (antacid)
Magnesium hydroxide - Laxatives
Calcium hydroxide - Cement, limewater, neutralizing acidity of soil
